I hail from a large family of modest background in a very small town in west India. I qualified from India in 2002. My father always advised us to explore the world and experience different cultures. After arriving in UK, Chester was my first abode. I completed my basic surgical training at Mersey Deanery in 2005. I am proud to be a product of the prestigious Welsh Orthopaedic Training Programme and completed my fellowship in 2015. I had a special interest in hip and knee replacement procedures since my initial training years – and I performed nearly four times more replacement procedures than expected from an average orthopaedic trainee at the end of their training.
My pursuit of surgical excellence and finesse took me to South Australia in the footsteps of my mentors for a prestigious advanced fellowship in adult joint reconstruction, recognised by the Australian Orthopaedic Association in Adelaide.
This once in a lifetime experience in a different health system with world renowned surgeons provided me with an opportunity to further consolidate my skills and experience in innovative orthopaedic practices. I joined Wrexham Maelor Hospital on my return in January 2018. It is ironic that, after 17 years of my arrival in Chester, relocating to different parts, we have found our permanent home again here now!
My main interests are minimally invasive surgery, computer navigated knee and hip replacements, enhanced recovery after surgery, day-case hip and knee replacement, revision hip and knee surgery and patient reported outcomes.
I am a strong advocate of ‘patient centred orthopaedic care’ and have always believed in empowering my patients and follow the principles of ‘Patient Knows Best’. I believe that my humble upbringing has a lot to do with how I treat my patients and that is with respect, honesty and empathy. This is consistently reflected in my feedback from my patients.
A good chunk of my personal time is spent with my family, considering there are three kids ranging from teenager to toddler! We enjoy different countries and their native cultures while visiting our extended family scattered across the globe.
I believe that my patients are not mere anatomic specimens with a joint pathology. I take special care to fully understand all aspects of a patient’s life before making any recommendations which are highly personalised to each patient. This includes developing a thorough understanding of your expectation, concerns, personality and lifestyle. My main aim is to get the best possible outcome for you and make sure that you are satisfied with your experience.
To achieve optimal outcomes, I work closely with a team of highly-skilled professionals who are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible across all sites where I practice. Our goal is to make your experience pleasant with a short hospital stay and a return to your chosen lifestyle at the soonest. Much like planning for a weekend away, surgery involves planning and preparation, the surgery itself and then post-operative recovery and rehabilitation. Each member of my team is dedicated to make your surgical experience as smooth as possible.
This website is aimed at providing information about each stage of your care under me. If you would like to speak to me about your bone or joint problem, please feel free to contact my team to make an appointment.
Best wishes,
Mr. Ibrahim Malek
